Santa monica Mountain
Safe trails association

The Santa Monica Mountains Safe Trails Association supports education, volunteer work, youth activity programs, and community advocacy to promote safe trails in the Santa Monica Mountains.

The SMMSTA works with public agencies, concerned citizens, and homeowner’s associations to identify and ameliorate identified risk for visitors to public park lands and adjacent residential communities.

How we got started

The original founders of SMMSTA are all avid hikers and enjoy outdoor activities. Their passion for hiking bonded them together and planted the seed for establishing SMMSTA. They live and raise their children in the foothills of these majestic mountains and want to protect these public parklands and trails for future generations.

The SMMSTA has applied for tax exempt status, as a 501c3, non-profit charitable organization with both the Internal Revenue Service and California Franchise Tax Board.

The Santa Monica Mountains Safe Trails Association was founded by a group of long-time residence of communities around these mountains with a shared passion for hiking. Locals and visitors from all over United States and the world get to experience and enjoy over 500 miles of intertwined hiking trails and public parklands within the Santa Monica Mountains. The founders of SMMSTA are determined to work with public agencies, “search and rescue” teams, concerned citizens, and homeowner’s associations to identify safety risks and remedies for visitors and hikers to the surrounding public park lands and adjacent residential communities.
